Summary: This Book Will Make You Check Yourself in the Best Way—And You'll Want to Come Back to It Again and Again

Coach BE Stephens really did the damn thing with this book! He created something that makes you do hard internal work without feeling heavy or intimidating. The questions don't let you settle for easy answers—they make you slow down and discover more about yourself than you expected. What's powerful is that this book bridges generations: young people can use it while figuring out who they are, and adults can take inventory of their own lives using the same lessons. Coach BE found a way to put his realness on the page and challenge you to "align your WALK with your TALK!"

Presentation Outcomes Achieved:

  • The book helps you separate taking ownership from taking blame, giving you a healthier way to look at forgiveness, boundaries, and letting go without requiring reconciliation.

  • It's not a book you finish—it's a tool you can revisit throughout different seasons of life, and each time you'll discover something new depending on where you are.

  • The reflective questions make you think about how your actions and choices affect other people, helping you become more self-aware without telling you what to think.

How attendees describe this talk

I would describe it as an easy-to-read book that somehow gets you to do some hard work on yourself. It doesn’t use complicated language or try to tell you how to live your life. Instead, it gives you questions and moments that make you pause, be honest with yourself, and put things into perspective. Some of that reflection can be uncomfortable, but there’s enough humor and realness throughout the book that it never feels too heavy. It reminds you that growth, success, and happiness aren’t always a straight line and that there’s value in owning all of your experiences, even the messy ones. I also think it’s something you can start using at a young age and continue coming back to throughout your life. I’m buying copies for my daughter and her best friend because I want them to have a tool like this as they enter adulthood, especially something that can help them think about where they’re putting their time and energy and who they’re becoming.

Attendee

I would describe it as a book about being intentional with yourself, your relationships, and where you’re headed. It helps you understand that moving forward sometimes means deciding who gets access to the next version of your life, while still being able to appreciate what people have meant to you along the way. I also think it gives you a healthier way to look at things like forgiveness, boundaries, and letting go without making you feel like reconciliation is always required. It’s a book that encourages you to take inventory of where you are, what you’re carrying, and who you’re carrying with you. I could especially see it being valuable for young people transitioning into adulthood, the adults guiding them, or really anyone trying to figure out what their next chapter should look like.

Katie Lee

I’d describe it as a book that asks you to do more than just read the words on the page. It makes you slow down long enough to really think about yourself, your choices, and how the way you show up affects the people around you. What I liked is that some of the questions seem simple at first, but when you actually sit with them, they can take you somewhere deeper than you expected. It’s interactive and personal, so I think everyone’s experience with it will be different depending on where they are in life. I’d tell someone not to rush through it. Take your time, be honest with yourself, and actually do the work because the value is in what you discover about yourself along the way.

Luisa Sanchez

It’s a book that will make you check yourself in a good way. It challenges you to stop focusing only on what other people did and start asking what you can control, what you can learn, and how you want to move forward. It speaks to real-life things like relationships, accountability, healing, protecting your peace, and understanding that everybody isn’t meant to go with you into every season. I’d tell someone to read it with an open mind because what hits you will probably depend on what you’re going through at the time. There’s something in it for everybody, and I can see myself coming back to it at different points in life and getting something completely different from it.

I would say it was informative, inspirational, and something you can actually use. Coach BE has a way of giving examples that you can picture in your own life, and that makes everything click a little differently. I found myself answering questions in my head and realizing some things about myself that I probably wouldn’t have admitted before, especially how often I’ve used excuses instead of doing something about it. You’ll laugh, you’ll think, and you might even get called out a little bit, but you’ll leave feeling like whatever you need to work on is actually achievable.

Diane Smith - Salazar

It’s real, relatable, easy to follow, and actually gives you something you can use. What surprised me is that I could see myself in it, but I could also see my children getting something from it, so it doesn’t feel like it was written for just one age group or one type of person. Coach BE found a way to take the same realness he brings when he talks to people and put it on the page. Bottom line, it challenges you to stop just talking about who you want to be and actually make your actions match your words. Read the damn book, do the work, and align your WALK with your TALK!

Jermaine Smith

I’d tell them it’s a real and relatable book that makes you think about how you’re showing up in your own life. It’s an easy read, but some of the stories and questions will definitely make you stop and check yourself. It doesn’t tell you what to think or what you need to change. It just challenges you to be honest about the part you play and what you can do differently moving forward.

Attendee

It’s one of those books that makes you stop and think, but it doesn’t leave you stuck there. It helps you slow down, get out of your own head, and actually take the next step. And because it applies to so many different seasons of life, it’s something you can keep coming back to.

Feedback for Coach BE and the event

You should know that you found a way to make people do some hard internal work without making the book feel heavy or intimidating. The simplicity of the language, the humor, and the way the reflective sections are structured create enough space for someone to be honest with themselves, even when what comes up isn’t easy. One section actually gave me permission to pause and forgive myself, and I think that says a lot about what you created. I also think there’s something powerful about the fact that I can read this as an adult and see value for myself, while my daughter can flip through the same book as a high school senior and immediately want a copy for herself and her friend. This feels like more than a book you finish. It can become a tool people revisit as they grow, change, make decisions, and enter different phases of their lives.

B, I’ve known you since you were a kid, so for me this is about so much more than a book or watching you speak. I’ve had the privilege of watching you grow up, being part of our family, and seeing the man you’ve become. I can still hear my dad saying, “I told you that he is gonna be something when he grows up!” He was right. I’m extremely proud of you, but what makes me even prouder is seeing you take everything life has taught you and use it to help other people find their way through this complicated thing called life. You’ve always had that Big B personality, and now you’re using it to make people laugh, think, be honest with themselves, and hopefully choose a better path. They say it takes a village, and I’m proud that you’ve become part of the village for so many other people. Keep paying it forward. Love you bunches.

Diane Smith - Salazar

You should know that this book gives people language for things they may already be feeling but haven’t known how to explain. The way you talk about relationships, forgiveness, boundaries, and moving forward makes some difficult ideas easier to understand and apply to real life. I also think you created something that can bridge generations. I can see young people using it as they’re figuring out who they are and where they’re going, while the adults who support them can use those same lessons to take inventory of their own lives. There’s value in a book that can help someone prepare for what’s ahead while also helping them make peace with what they may need to leave behind.

Katie Lee

You should know that this book makes people look inward without making them feel blamed or judged. The accountability message really stood out because you found a way to separate taking ownership from taking the blame. It made me think about things in my own life that I can control, relationships I may have outgrown, and how I can protect my peace while still being honest about the role I play. I also think you created something people can grow with. Someone could read this today, come back to it during a completely different season, and have another part speak to them. That makes it feel less like a book you finish and more like something you keep around.

Cecilia Parra

You should know that you really did the damn thing with this book! 😂 What stood out to me is that you created something that doesn’t feel complicated or like you have to be in a certain place in life to understand it. I could relate to it as an adult and immediately think about how my children could connect with it too. That says a lot. You took your personality, your message, and the way you challenge people in real life and somehow got it onto the page without losing what makes it YOU. I might have had a hard time admitting you’re smart as hell 😂, but I’m proud of you. This is something people need to read, use, and pass on to somebody else.

Jermaine Smith

You should know that the questions are one of the strongest parts of the book. They don’t always let you settle for your first or easiest answer. They make you slow down, think again, and sometimes realize there’s more underneath what you originally thought. I also appreciated that the reflection isn’t only about how I see myself, but how my actions and choices affect other people. The book creates space to become more aware of yourself without telling you what you’re supposed to think or what your answer should be. I think that’s why different people can read the same book and walk away with completely different things they needed from it.

Luisa Sanchez

This book meets people where they are without leaving them there. It creates space to pause, reflect, and process, but always brings the reader back to movement. What makes it valuable is that it doesn’t overwhelm you with answers. It helps simplify the noise, reminds you that you already have more within you than you may realize, and gives you permission to take the next step at your own pace. It also doesn’t feel like a one-time read. It’s something you can return to in different seasons and get something different from it each time.

Girlyanne Lacson

You should know that the book feels like a conversation, not a lecture. You’re able to talk about some real things without making it feel heavy or like you’re telling people how to live their lives. The stories help you see yourself in different situations, and before you know it, you’re thinking about your own choices and what you could do better. I think that’s what makes it work. It gets the message across without feeling preachy.

Attendee

You have covered everything so well. It is the examples that you give that you can see in your minds eye. It makes things clearer and in focus. I found myself answering questions and realized I have been giving excuses for most of life!
