How attendees describe this talk

Relevant and practical classroom examples from a teacher for a teacher, not just for engagement inside the classroom or educational impact, but focusing on the entire child; their interests, families, and cultures

One of a kind! I didn’t know how much I needed to hear James O’Neal until I today! As a fellow black educator, his message was a must for me! Thank you for sharing your story with us.

You shared your story which was impactful as to your why. I was able to relate to your presentation because I do many of the things you do. I love the idea of shout outs and recognizing students. I’m hesitant to do that sometime, but it’s worth a try. I love how you showed off your data! I often don’t feel educators get credit for the growth that happens in our classrooms. We always get why didn’t cuz do better? I’m gonna show off my kids that achieved. They need credit too.

Very interesting and informative session. Connects real life story to research and then explains and models how to apply framework and methods to increase motivation and engagement to promote success im students. Delivers information on how to create and promote joy in a creative and informative way

His real life stories are inspiring and he brings light to things others may not be aware of. He also shared some great ideas some of which I’ve done, but showed me ways to elevate them as well as provide me with some new ideas.

A very inspirational piece! To understand the importance of being those teachers, people, and humans that help each of our students. Knowing how important it is to ensure we are seeing our students at their highest potential!

This was a powerful presentation that really got me thinking about student engagement and how I will impact my students in my math class. I have different ideas and resources to bring back and share with colleagues

Inspired me to start the year strong and tangible ideas to motivate our students. We can’t wait to facilitate our students to motivate one another! Our Watkins Mill Wolves are powerful!!!

The session was about bringing joy to students and shifting different aspects. The one that stood out the most was the one on climate and having parents be involved in the process.

Feedback for James and the event

While still beneficial, if geared more towards Elementary would have been better. For example, younger kids may not get the Testimonial part. Also, parents are difficult to get to, let some for e.c. or helping with math, any tips?

Keep doing what you do, to reach as many as you can to continue to create positive change in the lives of our students! 😊🙏🏾 Thank you!

This session was great! I think teachers need to be reminded that we need to connect to ALL students, not just some.

I loved the session. Would’ve liked examples for children in early literacy stages (who can’t read/write)

It would be helpful to review our county’s data to address the concerns of our community and schools.

I truly appreciate you sharing your real data and the reality of building back after the pandemic.

He should be allotted more time to speak… sharing some of his slides would be helpful also.

He is a very engaging speaker and you can see how students would love to be in his room.

Absolutely loved including students in the presentation that’s what we are all here for!
