How attendees describe this talk
James had innovative ways to get parents engaged and for students to engage with class in a way they feel comfortable (testimonials). He models the need for feedback teachers need from their students
It made me question myself. Do I do enough to encourage those students who are discouraged? Do I make sure they know I love them and believe in them? I’m going to focus on this this school year! ❤️
This was such an energetic, compassionate, and insightful keynote. I truly enjoyed learning about the ways in which you bring joy to your students, as well as hearing your story. This was such an empowering and feasible call to action for all educators and those who support educators.
Coming from a background as a black male, it inspires me to hear and see people of color in a position of growth. You have given an inspiration to take my teacher's power and make a difference! Thank you for sharing your information with us!
Inspiring, engaging, and memorable. He gives countless examples of how he prioritizes relationships with students and uses those to build upon his educational practice. Would recommend to any teacher regardless of subject area.
As an educator, Instructional coach, and advocate, going into my 21st year of Education thank you for reminding me about the JOY and restoring the affirmation in where our power is ~ Student Centered Classrooms
For me, James' presentation was MOST impactful during this conference. He needs to do a TED talk if he hasn't already. I look forward to sitting/listening in on a workshop for him to TEACH HIS WAYS!!!
James did a great job of incorporating his experiences in the classroom into his presentation that felt authentic and made me feel I could actually incorporate these strategies in my own classroom.
I love the feedback survey. I had a student that said I singled them out yesterday and I did not handle as well as you did. Now, next time that happens I dan do better! Thanks!
Feedback for James and the event
I feel like HIVE values educators because they gave us their best. They gave the best hotel, presenters, app, after dark activities, and most of all... the best FOOD!!! Everything was done with excellence and professionalism. I hope to be able to attend again! HIVE 2024 wazzz a BUZZZ!!! My name is Adondra Little and I approve this message.
James, I want to hear more about you and how you inspire kids. I had a really rough school year last year with a group of kids who did not like me and I tried everything. I am starting at a new school in new grade and you inspired me to bring joy into my classroom to support my future students.
I almost quit after my maternity leave this school year. Hearing stories such as this reminds me that I make an impact on students and they impact my life because THEY provide me joy.
This session should have been earlier as several people did not receive this rich information. Maybe a keynote each morning vs the last day because people left to catch flights.
He focused on African American males but AA females also have been silenced and overlooked in classes - especially, math. Even his teacher chose two Black males to support.
I will be at a new school in a new district and I get a chance to reinvent myself and focus on culture with content. Thank you for inspiring me.
I just want the captions to go away because I can capture the whole slide. Can we’re have captions on a separate party of the screen?
I always like to see an agenda for what the speech will be about to help me organize my notes better or prepare my brain
You were great!! Thanks for all you shared with us… wish we had more time so we could pick your brain more!
