How attendees describe this talk

I would describe this session as informative, entertaining, and valuable. I feel I am now able to my center and lesson plan differently, change materials in room, be more responsive, question my methods and thoughtfulness to not only my children, coworkers, and parents but also my own personal friends and family.

I would explain to them the importance of culture education. I would encourage them to go out and learn about their community and kids background! I would open their eyes to the problems we face on daily bases. I would educate them on my own culture to help them better understand their Spanish students :)

It was really great to bring this to my mind. I always try to include the different cultures in my classroom. However, I never really thought about engaging in conversations about race/ethnicity at such a young age. I also realize that I need to be more mindful and inclusive of my book choices.

Sheldon Eakins shared experiences working on an Indian Reservations and the boundaries that students had with engaging in certain activities!! The way he handled the situation was eloquent and admirable! Kudos! He made me think a lot about handling situations when it comes to other cultures

Sheldon gave us pause to think about all our students in our classroom and our school. Are we allowing our children to be who they want to be? Love this!!! Acceptance and love is so important for our students, families and our world. Thank you.

As someone born in another country and culture I value families differences. I ask questions and ask about culture. It helps me understand their ways and customs. I have learned SOO much! Sometimes people really don't like to be questioned.

Inviting, inclusive, compassionate, welcoming. Sheldon tackled difficult topics like a true dad; head on and with understanding and empathy for people who haven’t been introduced to cultural sensitivity.

It was real life experiences that give meaning to the information about skin color and culture. He kept participants engaged by giving examples and using humor. The information and PowerPoint was clear.

It was very insightful and had made me think of people who could have benefited from his talk. It also opened my mind to really watch and try to get more culturally diverse books for the classroom.

Feedback for Sheldon and the event

There are religious groups that are not recognized; ie christian children in classrooms who are afraid to express their belief without being bullied; shamed etc. Those children are in need of advocacy but they are not represented!.

When I ask questions to my African American friends or other people sometimes they seem affected. If I didn't know or understand I wouldn't ask. Asking questions is how we learn and understand I want to. Build bridges not walls.

Nothing he was very fun to listen to and informative. He found a way to present the information and an entertaining way that still felt professional and informative

I think Sheldon’s discussion touched each of us and made us look within as we want the best we can for our young friends!

He was awesome! The presentation was easy to follow and had extremely important info. Thanks so much!! :)

Excellent speaker. Very engaging. Thankful for that on a Sunday morning. Well spoken and very relevant.

Perhaps share more of the Asian experience, have someone share their lived experience as well.

He’s amazing!!! And I’m so happy we were able to see him. (Go FAMU!- HBCU love)

I thought that this was a very important and very inspiring workshop.
